Soba Choko Cup By Kenichiro Inoue

These soba choko cups are by Kenichiro Inoue, a Kasama based ceramicist. While his work is often defined by color, this monochrome series is expressive in Inoue’s hand drawn designs. Each design is unique and are slightly graffiti-esque hieroglyphs on the surface of the work.

Soba choko have their original purpose as dipping vessels for noodles, but function well too as small coffee cups or for miniature presentations of nuts and snacks.

A practicing potter in Kasama since 1984, Inoue's work has lost none of its impact. His quality has received recognition in Japan and overseas.
